Bernd Roediger Places Second at 2019 Sunset Beach Pro
February 19, 2019, Sunset Beach, Oahu – On a rainy, yet glassy, day on Oahu’s fabled North Shore, Naish’s Bernd Roediger began the 2019 APP World Tour with a second place finish at the Sunset Beach Pro. Tricky conditions plagued the event window with few contestable days making every wave ridden crucial. While Bernd is often characterized by his carefree attitude and smooth style he approached each heat calculated and rode with surgeon like precision all the way to the final on his trusty Hokua.
“We had a pretty tricky forecast to work with, but I definitely feel like we ended up with better waves that what was called for!” said Bernd after the event. ” I had some incredible luck with the sets too.”
Despite variable conditions, Bernd opted to ride with a bit more foam under his feet. “I had my step-up board, and never really thought to scale down in length, I wanted paddle power!” responded Bernd about his board choice for finals day.
Bernd was not the sole Naish rider competing on finals day. France’s Julien Bouyer and Japan’s Rui Horikoshi both hit the water but unfortunately did not advance into the quarter finals. For Rui, a round four exit in the Mens division did not mean he was done with the contest. The young ripper did not leave the Sunset Beach Pro empty handed as he took the Junior U18 division win.
It’s a solid start to the 2019 season for Bernd who will now be shifting his focus to windsurfing as he heads to Japan to compete in the opening event for the 2019 International Windsurfing Tour.
