June 6, 2017, Peniche, Portugal – Naish’s Casper Steinfath defeats Europe’s best stand up paddlers to claim his fourth European SUP title in Peniche, Portugal.
Racing on his Naish Maliko 12’6” throughout the legendary Supertubos surf break, the technical racing lived up to its name. With challenging conditions, race strategy and equipment selection played a huge role. Luckily Steinfath was feeling on point. “I am super stoked right now, especially with the great all around performance of the Maliko 12’6” x 24. It’s such a well rounded board that handles the surf, flatwater and headwind very well!” exclaimed an exuberant Steinfath.
“The race was very high pace with lots of waves at Supertubos! I got off to a good start and used the waves to break away with a small group on the first lap,” said Steinfath breaking down the finals race. “ The level was super high with all Europe’s best in attendance. On the last lap Arthur Arutkin and I broke away and had a side-by-side sprint the last 300 meters to the beach. We caught a wave and hit the beach at the same time, which culminated in a crazy sprint up the beach! Fortunately the running worked to my favor and I am stoked I crossed the finish line in first place.”
This was a great result for Steinfath as he builds momentum for the APP World Tour Mercedes-Benz SUP World Cup event in Scharbeutz, Germany.
