Casper Steinfath takes on Hurricane Florence for Third Place at APP New York SUP Open
September 23, 2018, New York City, New York – As Hurricane Florence hammered the East Coast of the United States, Casper Steinfath brought his own storm aboard the 2019 Maliko 12’6” to finish third overall and maintain his 2018 World Title Campaign at the App World Tour New York SUP Open.
Starting with the long distance event, Casper continued to improve, this time racing around the Statue of Liberty. “Competing in the heart of the huge metropolitan of New York is something that I have always dreamed of! Paddling around Lady Liberty was next level and one of my coolest racing experiences to date. I had to pinch myself. Put it on your bucket list!”
With the APP Tour coming to New York during the middle of the Atlantic Hurricane Season the chance for extreme conditions were strong. Although Hurricane Florence made landfall 600 miles to the south in the Carolinas, the effects of the storm were still felt at the Long Beach race venue for an additional challenge to the racers.
“The points are super close and with three events left things are starting to heat up and I can’t wait to go full hammer!”
