Kody Kerbox Returns From Shoulder Injury with 2nd Place Finish at 2016 Dukes Oceanfest
August 20, 2016, Waikiki, Oahu, Hawaii– Kody Kerbox places 2nd at the 2016 Maui Jim Hawaii Paddleboard Championship in the stock division on his Naish Maliko 12’6” for Dukes Oceanfest.
This was Kerbox’s first race back after re-injuring his shoulder earlier this summer and had ideal conditions to get back on the water and test his ability.
Racing on his Naish Maliko 12’6” on the 10 mile course from Hawaii Kai to the finish line in Waikiki, Kerbox was able to finish on the podium. “It was the first time I completed the run and was stoked to have decent wind and waves to make it exciting.” said Kerbox “It was the first race I completed since re-injuring my shoulder during the summer. It felt great to be back in a race and to make the podium for the first time this year.”
Dukes Oceanfest is held every year in Waikiki on Oahu in celebration of Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, who is fondly remembered as one of the greatest watermen to have lived among many other accomplishments and accolades. Competing in the event was a good way for Kerbox to feel how healthy he is as the Pacific Paddle Games in California approach.
“With some added confidence and one more month of training before the Pacific Paddle Games, I am feeling ready and excited to test myself against the worlds best once again!” Said Kerbox.
