June 24, 2016, Lacanau, France – The Lacanau Surf Club hosted the first-ever European SUP Championship. Team Naish rider, Casper Steinfath, secured 3rd place in both the Technical race and the Long Distance, representing Denmark at the podium.
There were 14 nations competing with over 80 athletes in total across all the disciplines (SUP Surf, Technical Race and Long Distance Race) following the same format as the World Championships held by International Surfing Association (ISA). The level was really high, with a battle just to make the top ten. The long distance and the technical race were held in very hot flat-water conditions, so it was a hard grind to the finish on both days. Casper put up a good fight all the way to the end locking in two bronze medals and keeping his podium streak for the year alive.
Casper is now on his way to the Mercedes SUP World Cup in Germany for the Stand up World Series. Stay tuned to see if he can defend his position as tour leader!
