Louka Pitot Joins The Naish International Kiteboarding Team
By Ryan Quinn
February 2020, Cape Town, South Africa — The Red Bull King of the Air is kiteboarding’s most prestigious and iconic event. Originally hosted at Ho’okipa beach park the event went on haitus for several years only to see a rebirth in 2015.
Since then Naish is the winning-est kite brand in the events history with five wins altogether.
For 2020, Naish will have a fresh crop of faces in the event with four riders hungry to take the title, scroll down to see who will be flying for Naish this year.
ROSS-DILLON PLAYER
Hometown: Cape Town, South Africa
What to watch: The 2019 Megaloop Challenge winner is no stranger when it comes to the Red Bull King of the Air. This is an event that caters to Ross’s style and hosted at his local beach. Earlier this season he has already become the first kiter to break the 30m mark with the Naish Pivot.
EWAN JASPAN
Hometown: Melborne, Australia
What to watch: Altough he’s better known for his exploits in freestyle and park, Ewan’s experience and kite skills are not to be underestimated when it comes to big air. The recently crowned Aussie Freestyle champ can send it with the best of them and all with his iconic, smooth style. Expect to see some of the best looking megaloop late-backrolls from Ewan.
STUART DOWNEY
Hometown: Durban, South Africa
What to watch: A true dark horse this marks Stuarts return to the KOTA after just missing prequalifying in 2019. Although he may not be a big name internationally but on the Bloubergstrand his big air exploits are legendary. His calm demeanor on the beach quickly turns when the wind picks up and he has a kite in hand. While this is not his first time competing, Stuart earned his way winning the Maui Kitefest qualifier event. When it comes to megaloops, Stuart is a surgeon and the Dash is his scalpel.
Clement Huot
Hometown: Brittany, France
What to watch: When your home spot is regularly nuking, you have two choices: go big or go home. For Clement Huot, he decided to make his own third option: GO HUGE! The 17-year old frenchman has been training for years with the goal of getting invited to KOTA. This year his video submission couldn’t be ignored as he won a coveted wildcard slot. Be on the lookout for Clement’s signature trick, his board off megaloop. If Clement wasn’t on your radar, after KOTA, he will be.
