Team Naish Takes the Lead at Paddle Imua 2015
Maui, Hawaii, May 9, 2015 – #TeamNaish takes the lead at the annual #PaddleImua—a downwind race and fundraiser for Camp Imua—with team riders Kody Kerbox, Mariko Strickland and Annie Rickert claiming top spots on their #NaishJavelins.
Launching from Maliko Gulch on Maui’s north shore, nearly 220 competitors traversed the windy coastline paddling 9.5 miles towards the finish at Kahului Harbor. Howling East winds, coupled with a little end-of-season swell, came in right in time for the contest—making conditions that much more challenging for the paddlers. Undaunted, Naish team riders proved their prowess by adapting quickly and securing the event’s top scores.
Competing on 14’0″ Javelins were Kody Kerbox (2nd in the men’s division) and Mariko Strickland (1st in the women’s division), while teammate Annie Rickert (at only 14 years old) took 1st on her 12’6” Javelin.
Paddle Imua is a downwind race that promotes awareness for Imua Family Services, a non-profit that provides child development and therapeutic services to school-age children with special needs. Proceeds from the event support Camp Imua, a weeklong overnight recreational camp that is held each summer and provides exposure to water sports and other fulfilling activities.
