Tom Seager Takes 3rd Place at the GKA Junior World Cup in Tarifa
Sept. 23 – 26, 2021, Tarifa, Spain — Naish team rider Tom Seager was a strong competitor in the Tarifa GKA Kite-Surf Junior World Cup, taking 2nd in GKA’s overall rankings and 3rd place amongst tough competition and conditions at the event.
Following a 15-hour drive from France in a buddy’s van, Tom arrived to “nuking Levante winds, a classic sight for Tarifa’s beaches.” Oh, what a cross-country kiteboarder’s dream! With a full day to spend in Tarifa before the event, Tom was stoked to have time for a “fun freeride session to get rid of his travel legs and feel fresh for the competition.”
Tom went into the event seeded in 4th place. For his first heat of the day, the wind was absolutely nuking and he put up his 9 m Torch along with his trusty Traverse to get the job done. He rode a great first heat and made it into the next round despite some really tough conditions.
As the wind kept pumping and heats kept running throughout the day, Tom made it into the semi-finals where he took 2nd against fellow rider & close friend Kimo Mahmoud.
Tom’s standing in the semi-finals put him into the ultimate fight for 3rd or 4th place. The winds began to change in the final, becoming lighter and gustier, so Tom switched to the 11 m Torch.
Reflecting on the results, Tom says, “The results came in and I took 3rd place, winning the small final and getting a podium place to round out the cup. I also took second in the overall rankings, making me the Junior Freestyle Vice World Champion under 19. I am really happy with these results after the last couple of years of recovering from my knee injury and I can’t wait for more!”
Congrats Tom — we can’t wait to see you continue to rock the competition!
